Fast Solutions For Stress Wednesdays 10-24 July, 7pm
Stress seems to be endemic in our busy, fast paced life. We tend to think that situations or people in our life are the causes of our stress or unhappiness, so we then spend a lot of time mentally trying to figure out how to fix those situations or people, which often just makes our mind busier. Buddha taught that all our unhappiness, stress and anxiety comes from our mind. By learning to identify the actual causes of stress and unhappy thoughts, we can begin to understand how to become free from them. On this short course we will explore special ways of thinking and meditations that heal the mind of the source of these problems. The classes are based on the book, "How to Transform Your Life", by Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche. Everybody is welcome. Attend all the classes or drop-in when you can.

Meditation Basics Wednesdays, 21-28 August, 7pm
Enjoy gently guided, simple meditations that help us leave behind our stress and concerns, and allow our mind to become calm and peaceful. This two week course is perfect for beginners but also an important refresher for people with experience of meditation. Over the two weeks we'll explore the basic technique for simple breathing meditation and the function of meditation and a meditation practice. The purpose of meditation is to cultivate positive states of mind, conducive to peace and well-being, and overcome negative habits of mind. Happiness is a state of mind, therefore the real source of happiness lies in the mind, not in external situations. If our mind is peaceful we will experience happiness, regardless of our external circumstances, but if it is un-peaceful we will never find happiness; no matter how successful we are in improving our external conditions. The method to make our mind peaceful is through meditation. This is a special opportunity to take a break from our busy activities and hectic pace of life and explore the benefits of modern Buddhist meditation. Everybody is welcome – no need for any previous experience of meditation. Class Titles: Wk 1 - What is Meditation? Wk 2 - Meditation: Finding Inner Peace & Happiness

Guided Meditation Each class begins with guided breathing meditation, to help settle the mind and let go of distractions.
Teaching The teacher will then give a practical teaching, usually based on a text by Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche. The teaching will focus on how we can integrate Buddha’s timeless wisdom into our busy modern daily lives.
Concluding Meditation The class will finish with a concluding meditation to help us take the teaching to heart and there is also the opportunity to ask questions.
