What to Expect in a Class
Weekly classes, suitable for everyone, are an ideal opportunity to get some space in our week to relax, refresh and improve our inner peace. The classes include a talk and guided meditations (all in the comfort of a chair) helping us discover the highly practical benefits of meditation and aspects of modern Buddhism suitable for everyone (Buddhist and non-Buddhist alike).
We will discover through our own experience how we can all learn to keep a peaceful, positive and relaxed mind in daily life.
The classes are organised as short courses, usually 4 to 7 weeks long. You can attend a whole course or simply drop in whenever you can. Each class is self contained and everyone is welcome to try a class at any point during a term.
All our teachers are qualified and attend ongoing study programmes at Ashoka Centre.
“The purpose of meditation is to make the mind calm and peaceful. When the turbulence of distracting thoughts subsides and the mind becomes still, a deep happiness and contentment arises naturally from within.”
The New Meditation Handbook by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso
In each class there are two guided meditations and a practical talk on how to maintain a peaceful and positive mind in the midst of a busy modern life.
The first guided meditation is generally a relaxation and breathing mediation. It lasts about 20 minutes. The talk lasts about 45 minutes and there is a chance to ask questions. Then the final meditation, which is related to the talk, lasts about 15 minutes. To conclude the evening there is short group discussion and light refreshments.
