What to expect at a class
"The purpose of meditation is to make the mind calm and peaceful. When the turbulence of distracting thoughts subsides and the mind becomes still, a deep happiness and contentment arises naturally from within."
The New Meditation Handbook by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso
Introductory classes begin with a simple guided meditation exercise to reduce stress, tension, and distractions. This is followed by a short teaching on how to apply Buddhist principles into daily life.
Finally, there is a guided meditation designed to help us gain deeper experience of the subject of the class.
After the class there is a chance to enjoy snacks and refreshments while relaxing or discussing the ideas presented in the teaching with other participants and an opportunity to ask the teacher questions to clarify your understanding.
Everyone is welcome. The classes are suitable for both beginners and experienced meditators. You do not need to be a Buddhist to attend the classes, or to benefit from the techniques taught.
Also, you do not need to pre-register. All you need to do is choose a class and show up!
Why not come along and see for yourself what meditation can do for you?
