Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche
The Summer Festival was inaugurated by Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche, who taught 18 Summer Festivals at Manjushri KMC between 1992 and 2009.
Forty years ago, the world-renowned Buddhist meditation master and scholar Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche accepted an invitation to come to the West to teach Buddhist meditation to people living in today’s busy world. In 2017 we celebrated 40 years of Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche’s kindness.
Every year the New Kadampa Tradition – International Kadampa Buddhist Union (NKT-IKBU) organises a world wide programme of special courses on Buddhism and meditation that explain how to apply Buddha’s teachings (Dharma) to modern living. The programme includes International Festivals, National Festivals and Dharma Celebrations.
These Festivals and Dharma Celebrations provide a precious opportunity to study and practise the special presentation of modern Buddhism taught by Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, the Founder of the NKT.
The events vary in length from two days to two weeks, but whatever their duration they all offer a vacation with a difference – a chance to break free from the hectic routines of daily life and focus on the things that really matter. You will come away not only refreshed and relaxed but also spiritually re-energised.
National Kadampa Festivals
These Festivals are taught by the Spiritual Director and Deputy Spiritual Director of the New Kadampa Tradition, and are are arranged each year in various countries. They are a wonderful opportunity for people to get together with fellow practitioners in their country to listen to teachings, practice meditation, and engage in discussion.
International Kadampa Festivals
These are special courses taught by the Spiritual Director and Deputy Spiritual Director of the New Kadampa Tradition.
The Festivals include teachings and empowerments from the principal Teacher, reviews and meditations led by senior NKT Teachers, chanted meditations and offering ceremonies, and retreats to consolidate and deepen your understanding and experience.
Open to everyone, these International Festivals are a wonderful opportunity to meet with Buddhist practitioners from all over the world and share experience and understanding with them.
There are three International Festivals each year:
